1 killed, 6 injured in Banda explosion

One person has been confirmed dead following an explosion in Banda on Thursday.

According to eyewitnesses, a loud explosion was heard from a factory in Banda, a Kampala suburb, followed by smoke billowing.

A police report states that at about 10:54 am, a factory in Banda called Fabrication Systems Uganda Limited experienced a gas explosion that instantly killed one of the employees and injured six others.

The deceased has been identified as Tiburiwa Diana, a marketing officer at the factory.

“Her body has been taken to Mulago city mortuary for postmortem,” reads a police statement.

The injured include; Sylvia Nanono, Sharon Wekesa, Emmanuel Wekoyera, Evans Opio, and Mary Namukuze.

According to police the injured are in manageable conditions except for Barnabas Kasawa who is very critical.

“Police have temporarily cordoned off the scene where the explosion took place and all work is halted for the moment as investigations go on to establish what exactly caused the explosion.”
