Minister accuses Radio Unity of fanning Lira Violence, Station Manager disputes account

The State Minister for internal affairs, Obiga Kania, has indicated the willingness to implement the president’s directives on security as contained in the document released on Tuesday evening.

Speaking in parliament said such directives will help police officers not to sleep on duty but rather commit to work towards fighting the increasing criminality that has left a number of lives lost.

On Tuesday , President Museveni released a statement detailing the cause of the escalating insecurity in the country, proposing measures of curbing the increasing criminality.

In his statement, the president directed that all police officers who were at the Camera Centre during the kidnap of Maria Nagirinya and her driver to be tried, sentenced, punished and possibly dismissed from the police.

Museveni said police officers who neglected their duty should never work in any government department again.

Commenting on the president’s statement, Kania said they would implement Museveni’s directives.

He told MPs that police had made some headway in the investigations of Nagirinya’s murder.

However, some MPs said the president’s statement on the state of security was uncalled for arguing that what was needed were strong actions to restore security.

Kania also told the House that the security of MPs Connie Galiwango of Mbale, Anita Among of Bukedea and Gerald Karuhanga of Ntungamo, had been beefed up after the legislators received death threats.
