Kyetume players believe underdog tag will achieve them alot

Kyetume FC players have said the underdog tag will make them achieve alot in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The team from Mukono that only earned promotion to the Uganda Premier League for the first time in their history beat record champions SC Villa in their opening game on Thursday night.

Speaking to the Nile Post shortly after the game, goal scorer, Cephas Kambugu said the underdog tag played a lot in their win against SC Villa at Namboole.

“They had written us as underdogs and this motivated us to play better to prove them wrong,” Kambugu said.

Jonathan Dante Mugabi who was voted man of the match in the  game against SC Villa  could not agree more with Kambugu’s assertion.

“The name (Kyetume) is new but most of the players in the team have been around in the league. We should not be despised as underdogs or else we shall surprise them,”Mugabi said.

The Mukono based side, also nicknamed the Slaughters boasts of a host of experienced players who have played in the Uganda Premier League before, including Julius Ntambi, Isaac Kirabira, Vincent Kayizzi, Patrick Ochan and Robert Ssentongo and these according to Mugabi will see them achieve great things.

“We know they call us underdogs but this will help us beat them. As experienced players, we help the youngsters adapt to the league and this way we shall get points off all teams. We are ready to finish in among the top eight in the league.”

Kyetume, coached by former KCCA FC tactician, George ‘Best’ Nsimbe will visit Maroons FC in Luzira in their second game of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday.
