I will name the mafias soon- Anite

The State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatisation, and Koboko Municipality legislator Evelyn Anite has said will release a list of the mafias who are threatening her life.

Anite made the statements Friday, during a ceremony to pray for her at Boma Grounds in Koboko District.

Religious leaders, politicians and Anite’s supporters within Koboko and West Nile organized a ceremony to pray for the minister to be able to sail past the murky waters that could be drowning her.

Clad in a yellow gomesi, Anite thronged by supporters made a thunderous speech, in which she stated that the war on UTL audit has been dragging since 2016 and she is not about to lose it.

“The UTL money belongs to the government of Uganda and as the entrusted minister, I must ensure it is monitored. However, the mafia want to rob Uganda to enrich themselves. This is a real fight against corruption and I determined to cross through the fire. As a Kakwa, I can't sit down and watch as the corrupt rob our country. I will fight to my last breath. I will not lose the UTL fight,” she said.

Anite, who recently claimed that Mafias were plotting to take her out in their resolve to block the UTL audit, said she will mention their names very soon.

“My fight with the mafias is corruption based. I will not die and I will live to shame them in Jesus’s name. I will name them very soon. The reason I am here is to testify before God,  that is the only way you can defeat evil,” she added.

Koboko Municipality Mayor, Sanya Wilson o behalf of politicians in West Nile said that they are all behind Anite in this fight.

“We are no going to protest yet; we shall not be on the streets. But we are going to protest with our bibles and Qurans as our option of defeating evil,” he said.

Clergymen from different religious sects laid their hands on Anite and prayed for life and mercy over her. They tipped her to win the battle over the mafia.

The prayers in West Nile follow a press conference by legislators from the region in which they expressed their fears over Anite’s life. These said the threats on the minister’s life need to be taken seriously since they have happened before and claimed their kinsmen like; Ibrahim Abiriga, Wilson Toko and Francis Ayume.

On Monday, Anite while addressing a press conference at the Ministry of Finance offices in Kampala alleged that "mafias are not jokers. Go and ask Abiriga. I will die with my mouth open, I will die while shouting the mafias are coming until they take me down. They are tapping my phone, I hear their voices when I pick up my phone.”
