Video: My only crime was expressing myself, says Kabuleta

Former journalist turned pastor Joseph Kabuleta has said that his only crime that saw him incarcerated for four days was expressing him self through rhetoric.

Kabuleta was arrested by Police on July 12 over critical posts on Facebook against President Museveni and the First son Lt Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In an interview with NBS Television, he said that his only crime was expressing himself on a public platform (social media).

Kabuleta said that rhetoric like his should never be responded to with arrests but rather rhetoric.

"I don't believe that rhetoric especially to people in public office should be responded to with force. That is cowardly. The government has big budgets for PR and I call it ideologic bankruptcy if they fail to counter attack my rhetoric with rhetoric," Kabuleta said in part.

Kabuleta also noted that there are a number of people that are sent out to describe and belittle him on social media which is okay to him and says that it should be done that way instead of torture and arrests.

" There are many people on social media that are sent out to describe me in whichever way they want. That's okay and we should meet on social media,"

He added; "I wasn't found on the streets disrupting business and causing chaos. If I come with rhetoric, attack me with rhetoric. If I tell lies, tell the truth,"

After his release, the police came out to say that Kabuleta was not tortured while in incarceration but the pastor insists that he was indeed tortured while in the chambers.

Kabuleta said that he was showered with water and stripped to his underpants.

"I have never waited anxiously for the morning to come like I waited then. They gave my trousers later on but they were also wet and then I had to first warm them with my warmth which was also very little, before they could give me any warmth. By morning, every part of me was shivering," Kabuleta said.

On Muhoozi

Kabuleta maintained that Muhoozi has a right as a Ugandan to contest for presidency but he doesn't have a right to be enthroned.

He said what he was against was the project to enthrone Muhoozi as the next president but he has no problem with him contesting like any other Ugandan although he (Kabuleta) will still not vote for him.

On future plans

Kabuleta said that he has no intentions to run as president yet as it has been alleged on social media.

"I have a right to run for any political office as a Ugandan but I haven't made that decision yet. That is a big one but I haven't given it any thoughts yet.

Kabuleta also said that whoever ordered for his arrest had one of the two options: To either threaten him or make him bold and its clear that he choose the second option. He says that he will continue with his rhetoric because he has a right to do so.
