VIDEO: Cosase uncovers fraud in disposal of departed Asians property

The committee of commissions statutory authority and state enterprises (COSASE) has instituted a 7-man team subcommittee chaired by Makindye east legislator Ibrahim Kasozi to investigate the fraudulent takeover of departed Indian properties.

This as the custodian board in charge of the departed Indian properties faced Mubarak Munywagwa’s chaired committee to respond to the queries arising from the 2016/2017 auditor general’s report.

It was a day full of wonders at parliament as officials from the departed Asians' property custodian board led by the executive secretary George William Bizibu interfaced with the committee on commissions statutory authority and state enterprises Cosase.

Bizibu shocked the committee when he revealed that a racket of Mafia’ including Ugandans and Indians had been duly compensated by government to a tune of USD 2 million but the same the group managed to exploit a vacuum in the system and distributed the properties amongst themselves.

Even more shocking, according to the auditor general’s report 2016/17/18, it's estimated that these few individuals used courts of law to repossess these properties countrywide prompting Munyagwa to institute a subcommittee to investigate the matter.

Railed by this the discovery, the committee members have vowed to leave no stone unturned promising to investigate the matter countrywide, repossess the properties and bring the culprits to book.

More than 30 years ago, Uganda's dictator, Idi Amin, expelled 80,000 Asians leaving their businesses and properties behind. They were later welcomed back in Uganda, some properties returned and other compensated by government.
