An eyewitness account has revealed that the shooting of Kololo-based proprietor Arnold Mugisha by a Saracen attached security guard manning Quality Shopping village in Naalya, was a result of arrogance from the former.

The witness through a voice recording to Nile Post, claims that Mugisha with other colleague at about 10:30am arrived at the supermarket to buy consumables. Mugisha waited in the car as his colleagues went to do the shopping.

He says that on return, the colleagues that had gone shopping lost control of their shopping trolley and it rolled down the ramp crushed into a car in the parking lot.

"These guys came with a trolley and after removing their items, they released it to roll, scratching another customer's car in the process."

"The askari (security guard) talked to them politely and asked them why they left the trolley to roll, he told them that they scratched a customer's car and they should wait for the owner of the scratched car to sort out the issue, but they arrogantly sat in their car and wanted to drive away. They asked the askari to move out of their way but before he could move, Mugisha started the car and crushed the askari's leg," the witness narrates.

Nile Post has since identified the said security guard as Aweza Babu. We understand that Babu was on duty with another colleague identified as Moses Angoria.

According to the witness, it was Babu who was involved in the altercation with Mugisha while Angoria looked from the sidelines.

“On seeing that Babu’s leg was crushed by Mugisha’s car, Angoria took off and returned with a gun, and shot Mugisha in the neck.”

Police’s account

The deceased is said to have completed his university education at Oxford (BA Science in real estate management), and later at Reading University (Masters in real estate finance in UK.

According to Kira Road Police, Mugisha was shot in the face by Angoria after an altercation.

“What we have gathered so far is that the deceased and his other two colleagues came to the supermarket to buy but he remained in the car. Upon coming back, they left a trolley which rolled and crashed into another car,” a police statement attributed to Kampala Metropolitan Police.

“As the deceased (Mugisha ) was reversing, he knocked the foot of another Askari identified as Babu Aweza. This prompted an exchange of words between Mugisha’s friends and the askaris. Anguria rushed to the central box and picked an SAR gun and shot deceased in the face.”

The mob descended on Anguria and beat him badly, however, police say he is admitted at Mulago hospital in critical condition.

Mugisha on the other hand died shortly after arrival at Independent Hospital in Ntinda, while, Babu has also been admitted to hospital.

Nile Post contacted Hickory Bar and Restaurant management and they confirmed the death of their proprietor.

“Yes, he has been shot dead this morning. But we have not yet seen the body and we can not elaborate the circumstances under which he was shot,” one of the managers at the facility told Nile Post on condition of anonymity.

Hickory Bar and Restaurant is an upmarket eating joint located in Kololo.

Eyewitnesses claim that Mugisha was coming from the gym with his brother and they decided to buy some consumables at the supermarket.

In November 2016, Joseph Kanyamunyu, travelling with his girlfriend Cynthia Munywangari allegedly shot Kenneth Akena at Lugogo after the latter reportedly scratched the couple’s car.

Account from Mugisha's colleague

According to a colleague of Mugisha's who was not involved at the scene, the deceased was not involved in the altercation, but his colleagues.

The colleague to doesn't want to be named, claims that Mugisha's only fault was being at the scene by the time of the incident.

"He is a victim of circumstance. He was not even the one driving, because he was the only one calm.'
