Africa has been challenged to adopt the 4th Industrial Revolution as quickly as possible if it is to have a competitive chance on the international scene.

The call was made by Sierra Leone President Julius Maada, the chief guest, at the just concluded Africa Blockchain Conference 2019 held in Kampala, Uganda.

The conference attracted the country's top leadership including Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, former premier Amama Mbabazi and leaders in the technology and industrial sector.

So many Ugandans have not yet embraced the industrial revolution but internet in Uganda is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Even when Africa missed out on the first, second and third industrial revolution technologies, the 4th industrial revolution is here and Africa should take the opportunity for the development of the continent as a whole,." State Finance Minister David Bahati on behalf of Ministry of ICT said.

Dr. Elsie Kanza, Head of Africa World Economic Forum, Switzerland noted that Africa is growing at a rate of 0.3% while counterparts like Europe are growing at a rate of 0.7%. “In Africa, countries like Ghana, Kenya and Rwanda are some of the few that are doing well when it comes to industrial technologies but still Africa as a continent is still lagging behind." She concluded.

Technology in Africa has been taken over by the young people and that governments should provide an eco-system to enable Uganda and all African countries develop in technology.

H.E. Julius Maada Bio, president of Sierra Leone says, “government should be able to provide an enabling environment to the young people as they are more conversant with the technology and have great minds."
