President Museveni opens Bunambutye resettlement project for mudslide survivors

President Yoweri Museveni has ended his two day stay in Elgon region by engaging leaders and the community on peace, economic development and prosperity. He was in company of ministers and area legislators.

Yesterday, the president began his day with commissioning of a 26.1 billion road project in Mbale  under Uganda Support to Municipality Infrastructure Development.

The 3.2km road project includes Mugisu, Nabuyinga Rise, Pallisa and republic roads.

He urged the public to take advantage  of the infrastructural developments to prosper bring prosperity.

The fountain of honor then proceeded to Bulambuli district where he officially commissioned Bunambutye resettlement project.

The estate is a designated home for landslide survivors across the region.

He hailed Office of the Prime Minister, UPDF, Police and Uganda prisons  for what he termed as great works at a low cost.

"The government this time is efficient, this is shocking," joked a smiling Museveni.

He pledged his continued support and urged the ministry to accelerate the progress and evacuate people from high risk hills.

He challenged the relocatees to take advantage of the land incentive to embark on commercial farming. He encouraged them to consolidate their land and do collective farming.

He discouraged the people against encroaching on the national park adding that the mountain is an important water catchment for the entire  continent.

He concluded his visit in Bukhalu Subcounty where he addressed the community on the achievements and planned government interventions towards economic development and prosperity. He pledged to fasttrack pending infrastractural projects in the region and urged the community to harness the developments to better themselves.
