No Ugandan player in CAF’s Egypt dominated best starting XI of the group stages

No Ugandan player has featured in the best team released by the continent’s football governing body CAF for the group games.

Despite putting up a stellar performance that saw them book a place in the round of 16 for the first time in 41 years, Ugandan players have been ignored in the team dominated by Egyptians.

The team released has El Shennawy(Egypt) in between the sticks whereas Ahmed Hegazy(Egypt), El Mohamady(Egypt), Yaya Banana(Cameroon) and Ashraf Hakimi(Morocco) complete the back four.

In the midfield, the team Riyad Mahrez(Algeira), Ismail Bennacer(Algeria) and Andria Nantenaina( Madagascar whereas at the front are two Liverpool players, Muhammad Salah(Egypt) and Sadio Mane(Senegal) and Jordan Ayew(Ghana).

Substitutes

On the bench, the team has Cameroon’s Andrew Onana, Medhi Benatia(Morocco), Cedric Bakambu(DRC), Andrea, Wakaso Mubarak(Ghana), André-Frank Zambo Anguissa(Cameroon) and Youcef Belaili from Algeria .

The round of 16 will kick off on Friday with a host of matches around different stadia.

The 2019 edition is the first after African Cup of Nations was expanded to 24 teams and also shifted from January to June.

Cameroon are the defending champions.
