President Museveni extends Ofwono Opondo's contract as Media Centre boss till 2022

President Yoweri Museveni has extended Ofwono Opondo's contract as the Uganda Media Centre executive director for three more years, until 2022.

Opondo was first appointed the head of Uganda Media Centre in May 2013, replacing Fred Opolot on a three years contract being deputized by former army spokesman, Lt. Col. Shaban Bantariza. He was later on in November 2016, reappointed as the executive director for another three years ending 2019.

Now according to his official Twitter platform, The appointing authority, President Museveni, has yet extended the contract to another three years, starting today, July 1st, 2019.

Opondo tweeted; " President @KagutaMuseveni has extended my contract of service for a further three-year period effective today July 1st, 2019. It is with great gratitude to continue to serve the President, the Government and Citizens of Uganda."

Ofwono Opondo also served as the deputy spokesperson for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party before becoming a full government spokesperson in 2016.

The Uganda Media Centre was instituted in September 2005 by President Museveni with a task of managing government media relations.

It also prepares and manages government briefings and accredits foreign journalists who may wish to operate in Uganda.

The Uganda Media Center is under the office of the president and it operates outside ordinary public service structures.
