Businessman Amos Nzeyi has presented his credentials to the Foreign Affairs Ministry as the Consul of Mauritius to Uganda.

The Mauritius President last month appointed Nzeyi as the country’s first ever Consul to Uganda.

“My experience as a businessman and my interactions with a number of people will come in handy as a take on the new job handed to me,”Nzeyi said.

He said he would try to lure investors from Mauritius into Uganda as one of the ways of represent the country’s interests.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem the appointment will go a long way in ensuring investments into the country from Mauiritius.

“Just like we have Chine and Indian investors, we hope to see an increase in the number of Mauritius investors to Uganda courtesy of the country’s new consul,”Oryem said.

“This a golden opportunity to have one of our own to attract investments from other countries to Uganda.”

Mauritius does not have a permanent mission in Uganda but according to the Foreign Affairs junior minister, Nzeyi’s appointment is the first step to further strengthen the ties between the two African and Commonwealth countries.

The island country is one of the most developed in the textile industry on the continent and according to Oryem, Uganda can tap into the same courtesy of the new Consult.

“We can increase on the six million dollars we earn from cotton exports to Mauritius by attracting investors in the textile industry so as to add value to our cotton before export and fetch more money,”Oryem said.
