Spain police report indicates Reyes was driving at 136mph at time of accident

Police in Spain have come up with a report reffering to the death of former Arsenal and Spain star Jose Antonio Reyes and his cousin Jonathan who passed away in a fatal road accident on Saturday 30th May, they said Reyes was driving at more than 136mph (220kmph).

Spain's speed limit (75mph/120kmph) but it is not clear yet if that was the 'final cause' of the incident, the Guardia Civil's investigation is still ongoing.

The spokesperson of the Spanish police said, "The speed limit in the area is 120kmph. We can confirm it the speed of the vehicle was the main cause of the accident," he added that "Our investigation remains open, we do not know if there are more causes of the accident. But right now we can confirm that the main cause was the speeding, it was more than 220kmph."

The 35-year-old footballer and Jonathan Reyes, 23, died instantly after the Mercedes Brabus S550V went off the A-376 motorway near the town of Alcala de Guadaira close to Sevilla.

More than a thousand fans came to Sevilla's Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium on Sunday to pay their last respects to Jose Antonio Reyes when his coffin was brought there, his funeral took place in his hometown of Utrera in Seville on June 3, with a flag of Sevilla wraped around his coffin.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery and former manager Arsene Wenger were among those who paid tribute, A moment of silence was also observed at the finals of Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham in Madrid at Athletic Madrid a club he played for.

He was part of Arsenal's 'Invincibles' side that went through the 2003-04 season unbeaten, winning the Premier League.
