Dr Josephine Wapakabulo tells Bagisu: "I will not reconsider my resignation from UNOC"

The former executive director of the Uganda National Oil Company, Dr. Josephine Wapakabulo has rejected a  request from Bugisu elders to withdraw her resignation.

Josephine, a daughter of the late James Wapakabulo resigned two weeks ago from the post over unclear reasons.

In a statement, the board chairman of UNOC, Emmanuel Katongole, wished her well and thanked her for her dedicated service.

However during a stakeholders engagement workshop organized by UNOC to sensitise Bugisu area leaders and local authorities on the developments in the oil and gas sector, some elders asked her to reconsider her resignation.

The elders led by Mbale district Chairperson Bernard Mujasi and Bamasaba cultural leader Umukuka Bob Mushikori said when she held the top position at UNOC, Bugisu was represented at the highest level of national governance.

Wapakhabulo who seemed reserved about the matter later broke her silence appreciating the elders for their concern over her stay at UNOC.

She however told them that she resigned from UNOC to concentrate on her family.

“I know the name I hold and I feel the dedication and loyalty to this region because my mother is here. Mafudu is my home in Sironko district but there is a point in life when you make a choice to do something else," she said.

She said she is taking off time to focus on family.

“You will still see me but may be in a different capacity. But this is home and I will always be home”.

The elders, who seemed to be disappointed by her response, had no more words to say.
