"Voting should be made compulsory," says Abed Bwanika

Abed Bwanika who is a member of DP bloc has urged the government to make voting compulsory in Uganda as it is in some countries like Algeria.

Speaking to the media at the party headquarters in Kampala, Bwanika noted that many Ugandans cry of poor conditionS, bad governance among others but take voting for granted.

“Because of the importance of voting, every Ugandans at age of 18 and above must be compelled by law to vote, “he said.

He stated that there must be a compulsory provisions IJ the law to compel every citizen at the age 18 and above to go and vote so that everyone is involveD in determining THE leadership of the nation, locality and the local government.

He asked Electoral Commission to hasten the process of electoral reforms.

“We want to inform the government that we are not only interested in the electoral reforms, we are interested in electoral reforms that will ensure free and fair elections in this country, “he noted.

He said that they want electoral reforms that are going to ensure legitimate output out of elections in this country.

On the demarcation of some constituencies, Bwanika said that currently there are some constituencies that are over represented while others are underrepresented.
