Uganda to host six-nations ICC T20 Africa cup final from 17th to 25th May

Roger Mukasa will yet again skipper the star studded Ugandan team of 14 starters and two reserves for the upcoming continental cricket show piece in which the hosts Uganda will face off with five other countries including Africa C regional qualifier winners Botswana and their runners up Namibia, Africa, A regional champions Ghana and runners up Nigeria, plus neighbors Kenya who are the holders of the Africa B regional qualifier.

Among other start players is the experienced spinner Frank Nsubuga who has featured for the national team since 1994, vice all-rounder Brian Masaba who will deputize the captain, plus youngster Zephaniah Arinaitwe among others.

The team’s head coach Steven Tikolo says the 14 starters and two reserves have had the best preparations and can be trusted to achieve the ultimate goal of progressing to the ICC men’s World cup qualifier in the United Arab Emirates.

“At the moment these are the best 16 players in the country basing on our preparations, we have been training since late February and through the processes we chose the 16 and am very confident that they will make the country proud,” said the coach.

Team captain Roger Mukasa too has believes this time they will fight to avoid the disappointment that saw Uganda demolished on home turf at the ICC World cricket league DIV III in 2017.

“The team is not bad and is balanced, we have some few youngsters who are on form, no injuries so we are ready to represent our country,” affirmed the team captain.

Uganda’s first game will be against neighbors Kenya on the 19th followed by Botswana on the 20th, before proceeding to face Namibia and Ghana on the 21st and 23rd of May respectively.

The top two countries will progress to the ICC T20 World cup qualifier in the United Arab Emirates from the 11th of October to the 3rd of November.
