Political activists led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Betty Nambooze, the MP for Mukono Municipality were yesterday blocked from visiting Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine at Luzira prison.

Kyagulanyi was incarcerated at the prison on April 29.

After being denied access, they were told to first seek permission from commissioner General of Prison Dr Johnson Byabashaija who is currently in Agago.

“We called him on phone and he told us that he is in Agago. He assigned duties to his assistant Mr Mwanje” Lukwago said.

Lukwago stated that Mwanje turned down their request.

“We were shocked when we saw someone surfacing and told us that the order is not to allow us in “he stated

Nambooze said they will raise the matter in parliament .

“We do agree we are not above the law, Hon Kyagulanyi is not above the law. We assume he is here because he was remanded over an offence that was allegedly committed last June ,and we know this is a small matter, Namboooze said.

Nambooze says there is no reason why Bobi Wine would be denied his right to access visitors, even his lawyers.

Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine said there was no need for the honourable members to come to prison in a group.

“They were insisting to go in as group including the media," Baine said.
