Jubilation as Kadaga returns to work

It was all jubilation at Parliament as the Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga returned to office to resume her duties after recovery from an illness.

The Speaker’s first appearance saw her launch a website for the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference due from the 23rd to the 29th of September 2019 in Kampala under the theme: Adaptation, Engagement and Evolution of Parliaments in a rapidly changing Commonwealth.

The Speaker who fell sick last month after returning from official duties in United States of America was immediately rushed to Nakasero Hospital upon her landing at Entebbe International airport.

Later when he condition worsened, she was transferred to Aga Khan hospital in Kenya for more medical attention.

Kadaga who returned to Parliament on Friday to resume her duties wore her usual natural smile and appeared strong as she has ever been.

But she did not talk about her health. She started off by launching the website for the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary conference.

According to the speaker all delegates from the Commonwealth Parliaments will register their attendance through this website, discover key tourist features in Uganda, history of Ugandan Parliament among others.

Kadaga highlighted what Ugandans will benefit by hosting this historical conference expected to be attended by more than 900 delegates.

Bangladesh was the last host for the Commonwealth parliamentary conference in 2018 and Uganda last organized this conference in 1967.
