A Makerere University lecturer Dr Swizen Kyomuhendo caught in the sex for marks scandal that engulfed the university failed to turn up for a staff tribunal hearing challenging his dismissal.
Dr Kyomuhendo’s lawyer Grace Kyomuhendo (no relation) said his client failed to attend the tribunal because he had a personal emergency to attend to. Pressed to elaborate, the lawyer said Dr Kyomuhendo was out of town to attend a burial.
Thursday was the opening day for the university to hear the appeals of several lecturers challenging their dismissal from the institution. Over 45 Makerere University staff were dismissed in December 2018 for flouting various university rules. The grounds for dismissal ranged from absenteeism to personal misconduct.

Dr Kyomuhendo was exposed in a sting NBS Investigates operation soliciting for sex from a student before catering to her academic needs. He strongly denied the charges.
