Last year government embarked on the recruitment youths into the Local Defence Unit to boost security in Kampala and surrounding areas following a wave of crime and murders.

Months later, people are asking what happened to the LDUs as they have not been seen patrolling any area.

The UPDF said the trainees are in their last phase of training and any time they will be passed out to go and enhance security in their localities.

The UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire said people should be patient.

‘‘Those who were recruited have been training ever since, and they are now in the final phase of their training and the trainers are very comfortable with the progress made and they are sure that once they pass out they will be of added value to the maintenance of law and order in the country," Karemire said.

The force also refuted allegations that there is no budget to facilitate them.

Karemire said resources are there and once they are passed out they will start work immediately.

In Entebbe were more than 20 women were killed, some residents we spoke to feel that the place is not yet secure.

Last week, people in Katabi, Busambaga,  woke up to news that another young woman had been killed and her body dumped in the area.

They however have high hopes in the LDUs who are undergoing training and feel their deployment will boost security in this area.
