MTN confirm deportation of their employees by government over subversive activities

MTN Uganda has confirmed two of their employees were deported by government over engagement in subversive activities.

On Tuesday morning, police issued a statement saying they had deported two people including a Rwanda national and a colleague from France over what was termed as being engaged in acts which compromise national security.

In a statement released later, the telecom company explained circumstances under which their employees were arrested and later deported back home.

“On Saturday, 19 January 2019, the MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer Olivier Prentout was arrested by police at Entebbe airport upon arrival from a business trip abroad,” MTN said in a brief statement.

In the statement, the telecom company further explained that on Monday, their head of Sales and Distribution, Annie Bilenge Tabura was arrested by security personnel at the company headquarters in Kololo.

“Both of them have been deported from Uganda to their home countries, France and Rwanda respectively.”

The company said it is committed to operating within the country and also respecting its laws.

In the earlier statement by police, they said they have for long been monitoring the activities of the duo before their subsequent deportation.

This is to inform the general public that security agencies in close coordination with immigration  officials have been investigating two foreign nationals working with a leading  mobile telecom company over their engagement in acts which compromise our national security, ”said in part the statement by police.

According to security, the duo have been using their positions at MTN Uganda to carry out their evil deeds which have since been classified as compromising national security.

The public has been warned to be alert and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
