LOP Aol rejects term extension of Katuntu led-Cosase probe into BOU

By Benson Ongom

The battle for who will head the Commissions, State Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) in 2019 appears to be far from over. Leader of Opposition in Parliament Betty Aol Ochan has rejected a request that the tenure of the COSASE contract be extended to February 2019.

Abdu Katuntu heads the current COSASE

The current COSASE committee's term was supposed to end January 13, 2019 after parliament resumed sitting from the December festive season. COSASE is headed by Bugweri County Member of Parliament Abdu Katuntu. He is deputised by Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga wrote to LOP Aol requesting that COSASE's term be extended to enable the committe conclude its investigations into illegalities that may have occurred during the Bank of Uganda sale of seven defunct banks. She requested that committee work up to February 20, 2019.

BOU operations have been in the spotlight

Aol has instead accused Kadaga of trying to personalize offices in parliament. She says the speaker needs to follow the rules of the house that stipulate the newly selected leaders of the committee MPs Mubarak Munyagwa and Moses Kasibante take up their positions.

Aol urges Parliament and the speaker to back Munyagwa and the team to take over from Katuntu.

Kilak South MP Gilbert Olanya and Gulu municipality MP Lyandro Komakech added their voice saying the mentality of undermining the office LOP must stop saying Munyagwa can do the work since he is educated.
