BALIGEYA MAKAYE

Next year people of Bugisu sub region will be marrying off their female off-springs to only circumcised males as a sign of preserving their traditional norms.

That is why elders have called upon all mature males to ensure that they get circumcised before the Imbalu season ends December 25.V

The practice of circumcision is done every year usually from August to December.

This year, the elders have intesified campaigns to have all males who have reached puberty circumcised.

In Mayuge district, there is a hunt for Bagisu who live there and there has been a door to door efforts to have the males circumcised.

Some of the youth have gone into hiding but the elders assured that they will hunt for them and forcefully circumcise them.

Some of the people we talked to said they cherish the practices and rituals that accompany the circumcision ceremony.

Some of these practices, they said, were taught to them by their ancestors and they help cleanse those who have been circumcised of bad luck.
