Betway breathes new life into Express FC with shs400M sponsorship deal

Six time Ugandan league champions and Wankulukuku based club, Express FC have unveiled a shs400 million a year sponsorship deal from betting company Betway, the Nile Post reports.

At a function held at Serena hotel on Tuesday, the Red Eagles chairman and lawyer Kiryowa Kiwanuka said the sponsorship deal will help revive the team which narrowly survived relegation last season.

“This deal will go a long way in ensuring the footballing success of the club. With Betway’s continued support, we look forward to Express FC’s footballing glory,”Kiwanuka said during the function.

He assured the new sponsors of a product that will ensure value for their money.

The lawyer bragged that as he promised as he took over the club, he has now delivered on bringing partners to the Wankulukuku based team.

Speaking at the function, Betway Uganda Country Manager Adelle Agaba said the sponsorship package was part of the betting company’s efforts to help develop the game of football in the world.

“We are committed to making Express FC great again and also continue with our support for local football.

She said that having seen the Red Eagles survive relegation by a whisker last season, they decided to come in handy to help save them.

“It was scaring and we realized something could be done to save the situation. For a club that was always in the top four, this was a revelation and this sponsorship comes to help develop sports.”

The new deal will now mean Betway is now the new headline sponsor for Express Football Club.

The new sponsorship package includes both the shirt sponsorship and stadium naming rights.

Consequently, the team’s training, game day, travel and all other kits will be provided by Betway whereas the stadium will be renamed Betway Muteesa II Wankulukuku stadium.

Last season, it took Alfred Leku’s 58th minute goal to save the then struggling six time champions from relegation.

This season, the team has seen a great improvement in 6th position on 11 points in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Since taking over as club chairman, Kiwanuka Kiryowa has seen the coming of Equity bank, Buganda Land Board and Uganda Breweries as sponsors to the Wankulukuku based team.
