Lawyer Mabirizi says he fears for his life over Kabaka land case

Lawyer Male Mabirizi has said he has received threats on his life over the case in which he sued the Kabaka over land.

Mabirizi last year sued the Kabaka challenging the decision to have all his subjects living on the kingdom land register their plots at a fee before the court ordered him(Kabaka) to present all particulars in regards the kingdom’s accounts in Stanbic bank(Forest Mall Branch)and Bank of Africa (Main Branch) in the names of Buganda Land Board and the kingdom’s mailo land returned by the central government.

The High Court however last week threw out the case.

Mabirizi has said that on Thursday, he received a message from an unnamed lawyer asking him to back off issues regarding the Kabaka .

“I was asked what I want from the Kabaka before being warned to pursue matters other than that of the Kabaka because it is a matter of death and life. I was told there is a red line if I don’t leave the Kabaka alone,”Mabirizi said in a statement seen by the Nile Post.

The lawyer however said the sender of the message was quick to put a disclaimed that he had delivered it in its original form without any alterations.

Mabirizi said he is now fearing for his life because the message was not from an ordinary person but rather a formidable lawyer.

“It was from a lawyer, a formidable one, for that matter. A non Muganda and for the time I have seen him,he has never shown interest in the Kabaka’s case,”Mabirizi said.

Not Moved

The lawyer however noted he was not moved by the threats, adding that he would continue pursuing justice for the unprivileged.

“All of them must know I am not a broiler chicken who grew while being fed in a cage.All I have earned in life including education have not been on a silver plate.”

Mabirizi added, “They must know I don’t fear death because it is a destination of us of us.”
