KCCA’s Mike Mutebi rues effectiveness for faltering against Kirinya

KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi has said his team is still not effective in front of goal, after being held  at home to a nil all draw by  Kirinya Jinja SS in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at Lugogo on Tuesday evening.

Both teams on the day had a thing to celebrate about in each of the halves as Kirinya dominated the first half whereas the hosts took over the second stanza.

Speaking shortly after the game, Mutebi said despite having a bad start, his boys recovered in the second half but failed to convert the chances they got.

“In first half we were flat and our attacking attributes didn’t bring anything but in the second half we managed to cross a number of balls,”Mutebi said.

“We missed many chances through set pieces. It is one thing getting set pieces and it is another converting them. My team was not effective.”

KCCA's Muzamiru Mutyaba goes through a swarm of Kirinya Jinja SS.

Mutebi however admitted the school boys from Jinja dominated his Kasasiro boys in the first half before adding that he missed services of Julius Poloto especially in creativity.

“Kirinya is a good team with a pragmatic coach. It was a good result because we didn’t lose.”

According to the KCCA tactician, the league is still a marathon and they will be able to correct mistakes.

However, Kirinya Jinja SS coach Charles Ayiekho noted that his team is work in progress as they improve day by day.

“We had a good first half but decided to play defensive in the second half to avoid conceding because in the last two meetings we have conceded in the last minutes of the game,”Ayiekho said.

Kirinya players celebrate the result.

“I have a tough fixture but getting a point is better than nothing. If I go on picking a point like I did today and previously (against SC Villa) against the giants, by the time I play mid table teams, only the sky will be limit.”

Previously Kirinya have lost 5-0, 2-1,1-0 in their last three games against KCCA but according to the team captain, Godfrey Akole, Tuesday’s result was a fair one to the team.

“It was an improvement for us and next time they are going down,”Akole said.

KCCA FC are now 3rd on the log with four points whereas Kirinya are eighth with two points after only two games in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
