The minister of State for Ethics and Integrity Fr. Simon Lokodo has rallied different political party leadership to embark on preaching peace, saying seeds of violence will throw back the country into turmoil.
Unemployment remains a thorn in the operations of government, and with Uganda having one of the youngest population, the youth have become vulnerable to manipulation.
This has raised concern, with Minister of state for ethics Fr. Simon Lukodo saying a narrative has been created to say youths are being hired to go on the streets.
The minister also noted that although the youth do not have weapons, they can cause mayhem.
‘’The youth who are getting the atmosphere of turmoil do not have any weapon for fighting but they are using their behavior which are very destructive,’’ Lokodo said.’’
Lokodo called on government to use peaceful means of engaging the youth.
‘’I call upon government to use peaceful means talk to the youth wisely and know what they want.’And also Ugandans are called upon to talk, walk and do peace irrespective of their affiliations.’’
The minister made the call while attending the 2018 conference for the implementation of the declaration of peace and cessation of war organized by Korean based NGO ‘Heavenly culture World Peace Restoration of light’ (HWRPL) at Gadhafi Mosque.
The Rev. Canon Gideon Byamugisha reminded government on consequences of gun misuse.
‘’Let us embark at not putting only guns to silent but also the mind, heart , behaviors and all action that lead to violence and instability be put to silence.’’ Said Rev. Byomugisha.’’
Rev. Byomugisha said, ‘’before doing or saying something first think about if it is done to you how you would feel.’’
