Ecobank strengthens ties with Chinese business community

Ecobank has announced that it is in better position now to provide a wide array of financial services to investors and other customers.

During a dinner the bank held for the Chinese community at Arirang restaurant in Kampala last week, Kin Kariisa, the vice chairman of the bank's board of directors noted that it has the biggest foot print in the world making it the best bank to serve Chinese investors.

“Ecobank even has a clients' desk in Beijing ready to serve the Chinese community both in Uganda and at home. It is a matter of understanding what you want when it comes to financial solutions and we provide it," Kariisa said.

Citing the outcomes of the recent FOCAC summit in Beijing, Kariisa noted that both the Chinese government and Ecobank have the same agenda.

The bank currently has over 12 branches in Uganda with 33 affiliate banks across the country.

Basil Ajer, the acting executive director Uganda Investment Authority said China remains the largest contributor of Foreign and Direct Investment in Uganda.

“The relationship between Uganda and China isn’t by mistake, when you look at the manufacturing sector and infrastructural developments in Uganda, most of these projects are being run and funded by  the Chinese," Ajer said.
