Police warns against circulating of hate messages
The Uganda Police has issued a warning about circulating hate and threatening messages using internet technologies and social media.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 26th 2018 police say that members of the public that have started spreading hate among Ugandans stand warned as this is a criminal offence.

The statement which was signed off by the Police deputy spokesperson Patrick Onyango also went ahead to provide a WhatsApp Number "0707712019" as one where individuals who have received threatening messages both verbally or by use of social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter can report their case.
" Uganda police Force is mandated to protect all Ugandans and we are committed to safeguarding life and property at all times. Hate Speech and messaging contravenes the Computer Misuse Act 2012, Section 25 and the Penal Code Act, Section 51(1) (a&b) incitement to violence, " the statement reads in part.
The statement comes in the wake of violence driven and hate messages on various social media platforms as Ugandans continue to show their grievances and disappointments in response to the current political situation in the country.
