More demos over detained MPs rock Jinja

There is heavy Police deployment in Jinja as youths protest over continued detention of Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi and other opposition colleagues including Jinja East MP Paul Mwiru.

The protests started at Spire road before it escalated to the neighbouring streets.

Police fired live bullets to disperse the protestors.

Police swing into action to clear the streets of demonstrators

As early as 8:00am, protests had started at Spire road, the protestors blocked the road with heavy stones and bonfires demanding the immediate release of Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi and Paul Mwiru.

The disgruntled youths say the continued incarceration of their Member of Parliament Paul Mwiru creates a serious vacuum in their representation in Parliament.

They vowed to continue demonstrating till government releases their MP Paul Mwiru and Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka whom they call their President.

Police led by Kiira Region Police Commander swung into action to disperse the rowdy rioters.

Rounds of gun shots were heard at the junction which connects Clive road East and Spire road.

Kiira Region Police Commander ACP Paul Nkore said they are ready to clear the town of the demonstrators.

Police was still patrolling most of the hot spots including Spire road, Kirinya road, Clive road, among others.

Wednesday's protests come a day after protests first broke out in Jinja on Monday, August 20, 2018 over the detained MPs.
