BY HAKIM KANYERE

There have been protests in Jinja over the continued detention of Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi, Paul Mwiru and other opposition colleagues who were arrested in Arua last week.

Armed with placards that condemned government arrest of the Members of Parliament, the protestors stacked and burnt car tyres in the middle of the road in Bugembe, a Jinja surburb.

The protestors, mainly youth, accused the government of unjustly jailing the legislators who also include Arua MP-elect Kassiano Wadri, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga among others. At least 35 people, including the MPs, are facing an array of charges arising out of violence on the eve of the Arua municipality by-elections.
