Man who attacked Bishop Luwalira charged with disturbing church’s peace

Mwanga II magistrate’s court has charged Herbert Kaddu Solomon, 34, with two offences related to attacking Namirembe Bishop, Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira on Sunday.

During Easter prayers, the congregation at Namirembe cathedral was treated to free drama when Kaddu who was holding a stick and a clad in back cloth sprinted to the pulpit to hit Bishop Luwalira but tumbled and fell.

On Wednesday, the magistrate’s court charged him with threatening violence contrary to section 81(a) of the penal code act and disturbing a religious assembly contrary to section 119 of the penal code act.

“On April 1st, at 8am, at Namirembe church, you voluntarily caused a disturbance to an assembly lawfully engaged in the performance of religious worship,” read the  grade one magistrate Julius Mwesigye.

Prosecution also alleges that the suspect with intent to intimidate or annoy Rev.Kityo Luwalira, threatened to injure the said man of God during Easter prayers.

He was also accused of trying to annoy Rev.Canon Benon Kityo by threatening to injure him.

The suspect however denied all the charges before being remanded to Luzira up to April 24.
