Bishop Luwalira attacker to be charged with disturbing church’s peace

The Deputy Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango has said they have opened up two cases against a man who tried to attack Namirembe, Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira.

The congregation at St. Paul's Cathedral, Namirembe was on Sunday morning treated to free drama as a man identified as Robert Kaddu stormed the pulpit where Luwalira was giving his Easter sermon clad in a back cloth.

He was later arrested and detained at Namirembe police post.

However, according to Onyango, following the arrest, the suspect’s relatives claimed he was mentally disturbed prompting them to carry out a medical examination to ascertain his mental status.

“Our doctors have confirmed he is normal,”Onyango told NBS television on Monday.

“We have opened up a case of threatening violence and disturbing peace of a religious assembly and we hope the file will be ready to be sent to the State Attorney.”

According to the deputy police spokesperson, explanations by Kaddu were contradictory prompting police to search his home in a bid to look for anything related to the investigations in the matter.

He said that Kaddu drove himself in a Toyota Super Custom UAS 329T to the church before getting out with a traditional stick and bark cloth and attacked the man of God on the pulpit.
