I am leading a broke party, UPC's Akena says

The disputed president of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC)  Jimmy Akena said this week that the party is broke with no money blaming it on the Milton Obote Foundation (MOF).

MOF owns Uganda House where the party headquarters are located.

Akena said there is a group of selfish individuals within MOF whose aim is to fail the party operations.

Akena said: "My late father served this nation, but what did he achieve?  I am battling with MOF that was set up to support UPC. This building was set up to generate funds to help in party operations, but there are selfish individuals within MOF who want this building for themselves."

Akena told journalists that MOF hasn’t supported the party since he took over office in 2015, but amidst the challenges , he praised himself for securing  over 800 slots for councillors in the 2016 elections compared to the 400 councillors in 2011.

He also commented  on the issue of salary increment for some government workers, referring to the process as discriminatory and only acts as a demotivating factor to other government employees.
