Red Pepper offices still out of bounds

Featured

Hours after it was revealed that President Museveni had pardoned the directors of Red Pepper and ordered for the re-opening of the firm's offices, its premises at Namanve in Mukono remained under heavy guard by end of business on Wednesday.

When The Nile Post visited the premises, officers declined to let anybody access the building.

Speaking to one of the guards, he said they had heard about the president’s order to re-open the offices, however they will not vacate the premises until an official communication is made by the police.

Those denied entry included Red Pepper staff and casual labourers who had come in high spirits ready to resume work.

Also among those present was a red pepper staff and casual labourers who awaited course of action to resume their duties.

Today marks two months since the closure of the publication on 21st November 2017  following a story in which it imputed that Museveni wanted to overthrow President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.

Eight of its Red Pepper staff including five directors and three senior editors were later charged with publishing a story that was prejudicial to national security.

The matter is still before court.
