IGG: We need more money to fight graft

JINJA-The Inspector General of Government, Irene Mulyagonja, has said the inspectorate of government is incapacitated to fight graft in the country.

During a retreat of senior leadership and management officers' at Jinja Nile Resort on Monday, Mulyagonja said government should increase her budget and staff if the ombudsman is to work effectively and efficiently.

"Unless government listens to our call and enhances our budget members of the public will continue saying we are not working"Mulyagonja said.

She added that government is running on an annual budget of Shs 29 trillion yet her office which oversees graft in all government institutions is only Shs 44 billion.

Mulyagonja encouraged members of the public to always work with the inspectorate of government by playing the whistleblowers' role.

The ombudsman revealed that due to modernised corruption, her office has embarked on a strategy to train her staff on how to deal with such sophisticated corruption cases.

Corruption remains rife in Uganda's public institutions.
