Gov’t to airlift critical Health Minister to Aga Khan hospital

Government has started arrangements to airlift ailing state minister for primary health care, Dr Joyce Kaducu for further treatment outside Uganda.

Ms Kaducu is fighting for her life at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) after alleged food poisoning.  According to Dr.Henry Mwebesa, the Director General Health services, Kaducu was admitted a few weeks ago with stomach complications at Mulago hospital and was discharged after getting better only for the illness to return.

She was later admitted at Platinum hospital and developed complications before being transferred to IHK.

However, appearing before the the parliamentary health committee, the health minister for general duties, Ms Sarah Opendi said that the ministry has started arrangements to have Kaducu airlifted for further treatment.

“It is not true that we have failed to care of our own, two hospitals in South Africa and Nairobi told us they have no vacancies. I got in touch with with ambassador Agakhan and he has now secured for us a bed at the hospital,” Ms Opendi said.

“We prefer Agakhan because the state of Hon Kaducu’s condition can not allow her to fly farther,” she added.

Ms Opendi said that Shs25m (7000$) is needed for flying caretakers to help Ms Kaducu in her condition during admission.
