Museveni is Uganda's Julius Nyerere

A Tanzanian minister has equated President Museveni to the late Tanzanian leader, Julius Kambarage Nyerere.

Museveni is being commended for his commitment to the people just like the late Nyerere did in Tanzania.

Tanzania's Foreign Affairs Minister, Augustine Philip Mahiga made the comparison at the laying of the foundation stone for the crude oil pipeline in Hoima over the weekend.

Museveni has in the past said the late Nyerere was a Pan Africanist who was very courageous in the fight for justice and unity in Tanzania and the whole of Africa.

The affable Mahiga said people of Tanzania are following because Museveni rewards success, justice, love commitment and honesty just like the late Nyerere did.

Mahiga said Museveni has exhibited virtues like honesty, love and commitment which Nyerere had.

Mahiga hinted of the possibility that President Museveni will be honoured with an award from East Africa while he is still alive.

He said he has known President Museveni for close to 50 years having met him at the university where they were both students.

He said Museveni together with the late Eriya Kategaya,  James Wapakhabulo went beyond East Africa to the African continent in their liberation struggle.

Turning to the oil pipeline, Mahiga said Tanzanians stand from the project given that over 1100 kilometers of the 1445 kilometers will be will be constructed on the Tanzanian side.

Uganda and Tanzania in May signed the Inter-Governmental Agreement for the construction of the pipeline.

The agreement was viewed as s a significant milestone for the EACOP Project.

The agreement for Uganda was a major step towards the development of Tilenga (the Northern Lake Albert Upstream Project) and Kingfisher Upstream projects since the crude export pipeline is one of the key routes to market as agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding for the commercialization of the Lake Albert oil.

Uganda estimates overall crude reserves at 6.5 billion barrels, while recoverable reserves are seen at between 1.4 billion and 1.7 billion barrels.
