Man fakes his kidnap to get Shs4m from parents in ransom

Police in Kabale is holding a man who faked his kidnap and demanded Shs 4million from his parents as ransom.

Victor Twinamatsiko, 26 years from Katoma, Mwendo Parish,in Kabale District allegedly faked a personal kidnap with a colleague, Pratazio Twinomujuni of Bubare in Rubanda District.

The two connived to claimed that Twinamatsiko was kidnapped in Kampala and could be killed if the parents did not send ransom of Shs 4m in time.

However, after frantic calls, the parents decided to report the matter to police who on further investigations, discovered that Twinamatsiko was hiding at Twinomujuni’s house in Rubanda.

Charles Mugisha, the father of the suspect, says that he immediately rushed to police for help, saying he couldn’t raise the four million Shillings ransom.

Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says they found Twinamatsiko hiding in the home of Pretazio Twinomujuni in Rweeza cell in Muko Sub County in Rubanda district on Monday morning.

Maate says they tracked the suspect’s phone number and discovered that it was being used in Muko Sub County. He says they arrested Pretazio Twinomujuni, an irish potato dealer to help police investigations.

The suspect admits having faked his kidnap reportedly to raise Shillings four million to compensate the family of the late Judith Tukamuhabwa.

Twinamatsiko knocked Tukamuhabwa dead on January 12, 2012 while riding a motorcycle in Muko along Kabale- Kisoro road.
