NRM "rebels" want Museveni to face disciplinary committee

NRM MPs who were kicked out of a caucus meeting last week have said they will drag President Museveni, the party chairman, to the disciplinary committee over the way they were bundled out of the meeting.

The group of eight legislators led by Theodore Ssekikubo, the Lwemiyaga MP Theodore Ssekikubo told journalist at parliament that they had written a letter to the the party secretary general, Justine Kasule Lumumba, expressing dismay at how they were treated.

President Museveni ordered the group to leave a caucus meeting last week after they refused to denounce their opposition to a bill intended to lift the presidential age-limit.

Museveni said they could sit and plan "with enemies." He promised to meet them separately to listen to their side of the story.

The NRM disciplinary committee is chaired by Al-Hajj Moses Kigongo, the party national first vice chairman.

However, it is highly unlikely that Museveni can be summoned to the committee given his strong control over party structures.
