With only a few days until school reopening, Buganda kingdom has launched a campaign dubbed, Back to School” which is intended to encourage learners to return to school when the learning institutions fully reopen.

Speaking to the media during the launch of the campaign, the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga advised parents and other stakeholders to counsel and encourage students especially those who were greatly affected by the effects of Covid-19 to return to schools.

"The campaign envisages taking children back to school. We urged the parents to be close to their children and counsel them about the importance of the education. It is the duty of the parents to impress upon their children that education is the route to success," he said.

He appealed to the students not to be taken by the earnings they got during lockdown, adding the kingdom has organized mass vaccination at all counties starting January 29 to ensure that everyone get vaccinated.

Everyone in the kingdom who is above the age of 18, especially teachers and non-teaching staff working in schools and also students who are above 18 should go for the jabs, we encourage you to disregard all the rumours spreading on social media platforms about the vaccines, ”he said.

Officials from the kingdom stated that the campaign will involve mindset change among parents, teachers and students.
