Ugandans in Southern Africa gear up for Museveni visit; to endorse him as sole candidate

President Museveni is set to address Ugandans who reside in the countries of South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland that fall under the SADC.

According to Kintu Nyago, the Deputy High Commissioner in South Africa, the event on December 7 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg will bring over 1000 Ugandans together to receive an address from the President but also chat a way forward in terms of developing their own country.

“We expect the President to address the concerns of Ugandans this side but also the Ugandans will report to him the challenges that they would want to be solved,”Nyago told the Nile Post.

He said that at the function, a number of issues will be discussed as one of the ways to create safe avenues for Ugandans to work in South Africa but also to have other South African investments back in Uganda for the development of the country.

“Because South Africa is the most industrialized country in Africa, it has a well- established service sector which can employ as many Ugandans as possible but they too can do business here,” he said.

The Deputy High Commissioner also noted that Ugandans can export agricultural products to South Africa.

Endorse Museveni as sole candidate

The NRM Southern Africa Chapter members will also use the opportunity to endorse President Museveni as the party candidate for the 2021 elections.

According to Isma Luzige, the chairman, NRM Southern Africa Chapter on Saturday the chapter was launched in Pretoria at a function where the NRM Diaspora chairman, Hajji Abbey Walusimbi was represented by the Secretary-General, Hamida Kibirige and a number of issues were discussed.

“We have started mobilizing members from the Southern Africa countries to grace the function where the President will address us but also use it to endorse him as the party’s sole candidate for the 2021 elections,”Luzige said.

“On Tuesday we are going to have a meeting for all chairpersons from the various countries making up the NRM Southern Africa Chapter to strategize on the President’s visit.”
