MPs want report on state of mortuaries in Uganda

Members of Parliament have tasked the ministry of Health to provide to the August House a report on the state of mortuaries in all regional referral hospitals in the country.

This comes after two decomposing bodies were discovered in the Gulu Regional Referral Mortuary and with the hospital administrators arguing the mortuary refrigerators are down and efforts to secure Shs 10 million  to repair it has become futile

Gulu Municipality MP, Lyandro Komakech informed the House that two decomposing bodies were found over the weekend in Gulu Hospital mortuary, an environment that has become unconducive to the patients, their attendants and medical people.

This was the basis for the MPs to demand the Ministry of Health to provide to the August House a report on the state of Mortuaries in all regional Referral hospitals in the country arguing even other hospitals are in the same state.

The minister of State for Primary Health Care DR. Joyce Moriku regretted the incident vowing to crack the whip on the responsible officers

Many MPs concurred that the condition in so many hospitals in Uganda is worrying because most of the dead bodies taken to mortuaries end up rotting due to the non-functioning equipment.
