Over the weekend, Police arrested Pastor Augustine Yiga of the Revival Church in Kawala over allegations of raping a woman. Yiga is currently detained at Kawempe Police Station in Kampala where he is said to have turned himself in on Friday. This prompted his Church followers to storm Kawempe police station demanding his immediate release.

According to police, Pastor Yiga was set to be released on bond following his acquisence to take a DNA test with the child he is alleged to have fathered.

However, police later received instructions from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) halting his release.

Police spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Patrick Onyango says Pastor Yiga faces rape and other possible charges.

A one Angella Ainembabazi alleges that the city pastor commonly known as Abizaayo raped her five years ago, threatened violence against her and abandoned his responsibility after fathering a child with her.

In 2017, Pastor Yiga appeared before the executions division of the High Court in Kampala on accusation that he refused to remit monthly maintenance fee of 150,000 shillings to Brenda Nalubega (27) whom he allegedly raped and fathered a child with.
