Kasese: Angry mob lynches suspected thief

A man believed to be in his twenties was today morning lynched by an angry mob in Saluti A cell, Kanyangeya Ward of Nyamwamba division in Kasese Municipality.

The deceased, whose identity is yet to be known, was stoned to death by residents who chased after him, shortly after he allegedly broke into the house of one of the natives in the area.

The deceased allegedly broke into the house of ducks in the wee hours of the morning and stabbed a brother to the owner of the ducks in the chest, a one Musinguzi Julius who is now hospitalised at Kilembe mines hospital.

According to Batalingaya Jackson, the owner of the ducks, he made an alarm which woke up the neighbours and they pursued the suspect.

He was intercepted and a crowd then started pelting him with stones until his head was crushed beyond recognition.

The LC 1 chairman Badanga Alozius advised the community to be vigilant and security conscious.

"New people in the area should be reported to authority for security reasons," he said.

Mariam Basaliza the Kanyangeya Ward councillor decried the rampant theft in the area and appealed to police to heighten security.

She said residents will not hesitate to defend themselves against people who pose a threat to their lives.

By press time, police which declined to give a comment, had taken the body of the deceased to Kasese Municipal Health Centre Mortuary.
