High court in Iganga sentences seven fishermen to 50 years imprisonment

BALIGEYA MAKAYE 

The High court in Iganga has sentenced 7 fishermen to 50 years imprisonment each after they were found guilty of killing a policeman, Fred Nyombi who was attached at Kaliro CPS in Kaliro district.

The incident occurred in March 2012 in Kanamatiko Beach on lake Kyoga in Kaliro district when the deceased and others were conducting operations against bad fishing on the lake.

The convict are identified as Ibrahim Sundia,40, Kasusjja Ali, 42, Mawulire Sadi, 38, Lurence Mwidu, 32, Kamutumwe Baziriyo ,25, Kaamu Benecto, 27 and Kakaire Samuel 33 years.

The presiding Judge Joseph Mulangira while passing the sentence, said court got enough proof that they committed the offence against a government servant.

Last week the same court sentenced Bogere Mwamadi to 40 years in jail for shooting dead a businessman called Buyinza Patrick.

The incident occurred July, 2012 in Nango village in Malongo subcounty in Mayuge district.

Lydia Namusuubo the widow of the late Buyinza Patrick was happy with the court sentence and said that since the death of his husband, she has failed to educate the children among other services.
