Senior police detective grilled over Namavundu land

The commission of inquiry into land matters yesterday questioned the OC/CID Katonga region, Andrew Ayinembabazi, in regards to an investigation he conducted regarding a contested piece of land that belongs to the Kisonkole family of the Buganda Kingdom.

The land in question is located on Block 185 Plot 1131 at Namavundu Namugongo village in Wakiso district where a one Stanley Lwanga says he lost over 72 acres of his land and is left with only one acre.

Before the Justice Catherine Bamugemereire-led probe, Ayinembabazi failed to answer questions on who reported the complaint to the police and if Peninah Kalenge Busingye, who Lwanga claims stole his land, presented the land titles for the land in question.

Bamugemereire asked Ayinembabazi: "Who actually filed a complain to you at Kibuli?"

The commission later asked the police officer to provide the file for the investigations.

Ayinembabazi  claimed to have left it at Kibuli.

"The file is at Kibuli Land Police Protection unit. I did not pick it when I was invited to the commission.’’ Ayinembabazi told the commission.

The commission will now interface with Peninah Kalenge over the same land conflict, although she is reported to be ill.

Bamugemereire also noted that Kalenge had new titles of the said land that she had mortgaged to the bank which the commission wants her to explain.
