Jinja joins Free Bobi Wine Protests

There have been protests in Jinja over the continued detention of Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi, Paul Mwiru and other opposition colleagues who were arrested in Arua last week.

Armed with placards that condemned government arrest of the Members of Parliament, the protestors stacked and burnt car tyres in the middle of the road in Bugembe, a Jinja surburb.
The protestors, mainly youth, accused the government of unjustly jailing the legislators who also include Arua MP-elect Kassiano Wadri, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga among others. At least 35 people, including the MPs, are facing an array of charges arising out of violence on the eve of the Arua municipality by-elections.

The protest started from Wanyama road with the protestors chanting people and demanding for the release of the detained MPs.
Police quickly arrived on the scene and dispersed the protestors with teargas and cleared the roads of the bonfires.
Over the weekend a section of People power Brigade in Jinja gave government up to Thursday to release the detained opposition politicians who were arrested in Arua Municipality.
