Arua polls: security arrests NBS TV journalist, confiscates camera and live unit

The latest information emerging from Arua Municipality indicates that security operatives have arrested a senior NBS TV video journalist, Julius Bakabaage and confiscated his camera and Live Unit.

At 7.33 am, Bakabaage and his other colleagues, John Kibalizi and Benson Ongom were trying to set up for a live update near the central police station. Before they could go on air, security operatives in army fatigues pounced and whisked Bakabaage to a waiting car.

His whereabouts remain unknown.

From his hiding, Ongom told Nile Post by phone that they were hit with gun butts by security operatives.

"There was no engagement at all. we stood and they started running at us. They came with force, they told us to move away, before they arrested Julius" Ongom said.

Arua Municipality is scheduled to go to polls tomorrow to choose an MP but the final day of the campaigns yesterday was characterised by chaos and violence.

The driver of Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, Yasin Kawuma was shot dead while the MP remains in detention.
