Wife cuts off husband’s neck over land wrangle

Police in Wakiso district have arrested Harriet Nassali, a housewife for allegedly killing her husband over a land wrangle.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Area police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened over the weekend at Lwesubo Buwambo village, Gombe Subcounty in Wakiso district when Nassali cut Siraje Kavuma’s neck.

“They had an argument over a piece of land prompting Nassali to pick a panga and cut Kavuma’s neck killing him instantly,”Owoyesigyire said.

Quoting the couple’s daughter, the police mouthpiece said Nassali had always threatened to kill her husband whenever they had misunderstandings.

“We are still looking at all that information and will be used in our investigations into the matter,”Owoyesigyire said.

Nassali is currently detained at Matugga police station.

The number of couples falling out after misunderstandings have of recent increased all over the country.

In May, the Police Flying Squad Unit arrested three family members for allegedly conspiring to murder one of their own, Abel Katende, a former senior accountant with Monitor Publications Limited.

The suspects included the deceased’s wife Janet Namugenyi Katende and his children; Lilian Najuma and George Kaya who were accused of plotting and consequently murdering Katende on April 27, 2018 at Lutete village Kasangati Sub County in Wakiso District.

According to the area LC1 chairman, the deceased had been living at his home in Luteete for more than two decades until 2014 when he was allegedly chased away by his family following a misunderstanding and forced to another village.

“The hunger for more riches forced the family members to later hatch a plan on how to end his life so that they could own all his properties. In a properly hatched plan the deceased received a call from his children Lilian Najjuma and Gideon Kaya (all suspects) he had fathered with his wife, a one Janet Namugenyi Katende (suspect) saying they needed to visit and bond with him after a very long time, to which he agreed,” police said.

It was alleged that on visiting him, the family members clobbered Katende to death before hiding the body in a pit latrine until it was recovered by police days later.
